Maybe see if a LAN Center or gaming store can fix your disc reader. I remember at a LAN Center I used to go to for Brawl tourneys (don't go anymore cause they don't host Brawl tourneys anymore) when I mentioned my Wii's disc reader was broken, they did offer to fix it for $50, but I pretty much only play Brawl and Kirby games which I have ISOs/USBs for so it's fine. See if you can find one of those or someone who isn't Nintendo to fix your Wii if it's the disc reader that's broken, they won't be all picky and stuff, only Nintendo does that. Maybe some online sites will offer to fix your Wii if you mail to them. I can understand if you don't trust that stuff as well, but at the same time... If you have a Wii that can't read discs, maybe it's worth a shot if you can't find an in-person venue that fixes Wii.
