^ummm, you did see that those sentences are inside the quotation marks, right? i'll explain, since you apparently need it: letters inside quotation marks are not written by the person posting themself, but are words quoted (quotation marks, get it?) from another person.

increasing health makes it an rpg? so if i equip juggernaut, CoD becomes an rpg?
what ''stats'' increase? you get better items, not better stats.

tl;dr you're still holding a grudge, which became plainly obvious when you attacked my post about originality of rpgs from japan, got proven wrong, then ignored it.

Never got proven wrong. Didn't ignore it so much as had no interest in commenting on it. Pretty big difference.

All I'm saying is that Zelda, like many many games, does fit within the confines of the things required for it to be an RPG, and its creators see it as such.

Also they weren't in quotation marks, they were in double apostrophes, which I found weird but decided wasn't worth commenting on. Regardless it's not really okay to put even self-censored curse words on a forum that tries to be very family friendly.

Also Also yes grand theft auto and resident evil can fit within the required field to be rpgs. So can Assassin's Creed.

you were disappointed because you thought i thought games from japan aren't original, while it was obvious from the context, i was talking about rpgs.
point out the part where you're not wrong.

what confines?

this is what i used: ''
this is what you used: "
you're right, there's now way you could've looked at them and thought ''maybe he's using them as quotation marks''...

i went for the quote. if i edit it, it's not a quote anymore. family friendly is nice, but do you seriously believe that people who visit this site, who've thus been on the internet, have never encountered the f-word?

ehm... so? you're defense is ''So can Assassin's Creed.''? i honestly don't know what kind of response you want to this.

No, I was disappointed because I thought you said RPGs from Japan aren't original. You were indeed talking about RPGs though the way you worded your rebuttal it sounded like you decided you were only talking about turn-based RPGs from Japan as opposed to just RPGs from Japan? The majority of Action RPGs do still come from Japan, after all. Look at every namco RPG, Demon's Souls/Dark Souls, Kingdom Hearts, Nier, Muramasa, any tri-ace rpg, the list just keeps on going. So I guess what it comes down to was you were wrong. I told you you were wrong and you assumed I had misunderstood you. You clarified with a wrong statement and I misunderstood your clarification.

So we were both wrong. You were just wronger.

RPGs need a stat system and a way for the character to get stronger as the game progresses. Those are the confines.

For future reference, quotes can be changed through rewording if you just put the word in parentheses, like so: "SHUT THE (heck) UP" or "(be quiet)", etc. It is the officially accepted way to reword a quote while it is still considered an exact quote. Newspapers do it. It's also in both MLA and APA paper writing formats. Also I wouldn't be surprised if kirbystar hasn't. Don't forget not everyone here frequents the net. This is a child-friendly site, so there are some users here who visit this site and go nowhere else.

sirmidor wrote:ehm... so? you're defense is ''So can Assassin's Creed.''? i honestly don't know what kind of response you want to this.

No. My defense was "the two games listed as being more like RPGs than zelda ALSO are RPGs." So is assassin's creed was just a personal sidebar.

The correct way to modify a quote is actually with square brackets. When dropping words of phrased entirely, you use "[...]".

So for example the following

sirmidor wrote:you were disappointed because you thought i thought games from japan aren't original, while it was obvious from the context, i was talking about rpgs.
point out the part where you're not wrong.

becomes

sirmidor wrote:[i was] disappointed because [...] i was [...] wrong.

This is how reporters and journalists with an agenda twist facts to meet their preconceived notions of reality.

(Please note that this just an example and not my attempt at stating what I believe to be a fact. Although I do think Zelda is an RPG, I don't actually have anything to say on the subject.)

Alright, I think we've strayed a little too far from the subject here. It looks like everyone's gotten their point across, and if you have something else to say, feel free to continue in a PM.

So anyway, Xenoblade. I don't know anything about the game besides the obvious fact that 90% of this topic has nothing to do with it. Anyone wanna enlighten me here?

why does it say ''this post was deleted'' if i can still see it?

it truly is a gift.

one thing though. you say it's an rpg when it has stats and you grow stronger as time passes in the game. you also count items that increase for example attack power, like link's sword upgrades, under stat increasing. this feels too wide, since modern warfare 3 can even fit this description. shouldn't the confines be a bit more restricting?

I'm not that great at explaining things really but it's a great J-RPG for Wii that was originally released in June (only for Japan), and then Europe in August. A lot of people were angry that it wasn't coming to the US so there was an Operation Rainfall campaign to get this and two other games released in America. Anyways you can read up about it on this wikipeida article:

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... /Xenoblade
Here's a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7Xc6in86rs

It really looks like an excellent game and I'm looking forward to it.

Played it. Didn't enjoy it. The writing is incredibly sloppy and some of the worst I've seen; none of the characters are interesting. Plus the battle system is kinda boring It's a shame because it's a cool idea for a setting.

That's all right though because Last Story is amazing.

I really enjoyed Xenoblade. The music is nice and the worlds are huge. The story and characters are captivating as well. The quests can be a little boring at times, but it's certainly rewarding to put all your effort into. The battle system is unique and the bosses are challenging. I'm currently going through my second playthrough of the game, and I really don't have much to complain about it. It really is an excellent game.
