Super Mario 3D Land

Postby MelonBread975 » Sun Aug 14, 2011 2:11 pm

Super Mario 3D Land looks great! I've pre-ordered it, the graphics and gameplay look great. I'm just wondering why Nintendo gave it a more retro feel. Why bring back the time limit? The levels also seem a lot smaller and more platformer like, even though there's some full 3D spaces. I liked the wide open spaces and the amount of time you had to explore everything in Super Mario Galaxy and the like, but Super Mario Land 3D looks a lot smaller. I've never played it though so I'll have to wait and see the final result.

What do you guys think about it? Discuss c:

I don't know I guess I'm just making a lot of topics like this because I want to revive the forums with interesting discussions

i hate time limits! i hate the fact that you can't take your time. i especially hate them when there's a huge timer at the top of the screen making you nervous.

i just don't get it. why not just make super mario galaxy 3 and released it on the 3DS and wii? it's a proven hit, but instead they come with ,in my eyes, a watered down version and you can't defend Nintendo by saying that they want to make original games and not just sequels, because it's super mario galaxy, but with added sht and good stuff taken away.
justice always prevails, because the victor claims justice.

Yeah. Taking your time let's you really appreciate the graphics, environment, and other hard work the developers put into the game. When things are timed it makes the game seem rushed and cuts down on the amount of gameplay hours.
Also there's a possibility that they might make a Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Sunshine sequel for the 3DS. And it might have the previous games bundled with it in the same cartridge. It's still a rumor but it would be great for something like that to materialize.

The levels are supposed to be linear, not completely wide open like galaxy ಠ_ಠ

I know, I'm just wondering why they want it to be linear. Wide open spaces like Galaxy are great.

[s]They probably wanted to make a New Super Mario Bros. 3DS and Galaxy 3 at the same time so they just mashed them together[/s]
They probably wanted to try new things

Yeah I wonder what's up with the name. Why can't it be Super Mario Land 2 or Super Mario Bros. 4? Or at least Super Mario Land 3D.

There is SML1,2 and 3, Super Mario World was called Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan and Super Mario Land 3D would sound like a remake oh no! I've turned into Sirmidor!

I do agree about the time limit, but as Krook said, it's supposed to be linear. You can also increase your time.

There's these floating timer items from SMG that increase your time limit (+100, +200, etc.)

Oh okay. It would still feel rushed though because you get more points if you finish early right?

Just about every single 2D Mario game had a time limit, so why does this time limit have to be an issue just because it's a 3D game?

Because it's not a 2D game
(okay just kidding)

The time limit is fine but since it's like a hybrid it feels weird when you see Galaxy and 64 elements
