Princess Tutu

princess tutu... ohhh....
it is definitely not like any other shojo anime. Princess tutu lives up to a trillion times it's name.
yeah, i know what your thinking.... a sailor moonified shoujo anime with girl power rangers, a transformation in every episode and rinse and repeat.... with ballerinas! how much worse could it get?
Well, when you watch it, you'll take those words out of time and bite it, thrash it, crumple it up, tear it into bite sized pieces, eat them, then barf it up and flush it down the toilet.
Princess tutu is exceptional for boys and girls of all ages. it is a story within an story. a classic grimms fairytale. it is NOOOOOT all happy.
it is about a duck named ahiru. which... means duck. anyway, she sees the heartless prince from the unfinished story, the prince and the raven by drosselmeyer (draw-sell-my-er). Drosselmeyer had a power that everyone feared. the power to make his stories real life. and, may i say, he is very sadistic and only likes tragity endings. while writing the story, he died. however, he wrote that he could write stories even after his death. ahiru fell in love with the dancing prince. but... he was so lonely. and she was just a duck. but, drosselmeyer offered her a red pendant that turned her into a human when she touched water and back into a duck when she says quack, which she does when she's frightened. being a human, she went to the same ballet school as the prince, mytho (mew-toe) and a top student, rue (rew), his 'girlfriend'.then their's mytho's mentor, fakir (faw-key-er) who is also at the school and is kinda strict toward mytho. ahiru's friends, pike (pee-kay) and lili (i think) are in neko-sensei (a cat....)'s class. it turns out that in the story, the prince who loved everyone and everyone loved followed the evil raven out of the book and used a forbidden power--shattering his own heart--to seal away the raven. Also, ahiru's pendant can turn her into another figure in the story, princess tutu. And so, as princess tutu, she looks for his red pieces of heart.
yes, there is the princess tutu transformation every episode and rinse and repeat.... but not for long! the rinse and repeat goes on for only a few episodes. then it gets dark, there comes twists and tear jerking moments. it doesn't play around anymore. it does have it's fair share of funny moments, though!
oh, and.... IT DOES NOT GET A COMPLETELY HAPPY ENDING! so ha! watch it and you will be glad you listened to me!
now, your thinking, rinse and repeat, right? transforma

I watched about half of this one a long time ago.  It was great when its focus was on music and ballet as an art form, but it kinda lost me when its focus moved away from that.  Definitely worth watching, though.  I'll probably try it again at some point.
waiting for someone to call me immature for this post
