I claim nothing about the veracity of mythology, or the bible itself. The Bible is definitely mythology. Some people also think the Bible is true. These are not mutually exclusive states.
Even if they were mutually exclusive, it's still a good tool. Let's pretend (and it will be easy for you, harder for others) that the Bible is true. Let's also pretend I'm teaching a small mythology class. I might bring up Flood myths, like the Epic of Gilgamesh. It would be useful to point out any parallels to Noah's Flood. Just like it's useful for me to point out other, historical floods that we may know of from that general time period: Many myths have their basis in reality, and if I think that reality can be found in a Bible, then it's a good tool to show where the myths of some ancient cultures came from.
Like I said, it's a good tool, if I'm debating or teaching mythology ;>
