Kirby Anniversary Collection

So, now that Iwata has announced a new collection of Kirby games on the wii to commemorate his 20th anniversary, what games would you like to see on it? Do you think they'll do anything new with any of them, or if they'll be straight ports?

I think that, knowing hal, it's most likely that they'll fully remake one game, possibly dreamland 3 or Kirby 64 (more likely dreamland 3, since it's 2d and would take less modeling), and have it be the main attraction of the collection, with all the others as straight ports. They might add some new subgames as well, maybe even put in all of kirby's toybox.

Other highly possible games are KSS, KA, KAM, KDL2 (maybe even KDL2 DX!), KDL, KPL, KAv and KDC.

I think Tilt and Tumble is possible too, given that it'll be on the wii. Though really, any game outside of Epic Yarn, Returns to Dreamland, Canvas Curse, Squeak Squad and Mass Attack are possible.

If it's anything like zelda or sonic's collections it could also contain concept art, videos, history, interviews, possibly an anime episode or some manga pages, any of which could be cool. Japanese HD collections for PS3 and 360 have included online download codes for previous games, so it might even come with some 3ds virtual console games for free as well, not that that would help me out.

So, what are you guys thinking we'll find? As you can see, there are a ton of possibilities - what do you guys think some of those possibilities are?

I don't think the GameBoy/Advance games should be included on the Wii disk since they're handheld titles, but would be better suited for release on the 3DS shop via download codes. Maybe having a format similar to The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition would suit the collection nicely.
I would like to see all of the NES/SNES games, as well as Kirby 64, and Kirby Air Ride. It would be nice if some of the games were updated with Wii controls, but also included traditional controls via GameCube and Classic Controller input. I wish the Wii version of Twilight Princess let you play with the Classic Controller, but unfortunately you were forced to use Wii controls. Epic Yarn and Return to Dream Land won't be there for sure, but it would be nice to include demos of them, if there is enough disk space.

I would love if Kirby 64 was remade. The game's art direction looks like it's been limited by the Nintendo 64 capabilities, and seeing how good Return to Dream Land looked makes me want a remake really bad.

Tilt 'n' Tumble would be impossible on the Wii unless you have the Wii Remote Plus, but most people already have one because of Skyward Sword. Again, since the 3DS already has a built in accelerometer and gyroscope, it would be better suited for Virtual Console.

They are...technically possible if it's on a dual layered disc. Metroid Prime collection had two gamecube games and also prime 3, so I feel like epic yarn wouldn't be too hard to fit. They just wouldn't do that.]

Source? I mean...I don't especially care since TnT pretty obviously just had Kirby slapped on it before they called it a day, but I've played wario ware and they had some games that were basically tilt and tumble. I don't really see how TnT would be impossible with a wiimote.

Oops, I just read that Tilt 'n' Tumble is controlled with accelerometers, not a gyroscope. It would be possible with the Wiimote, since the wiimote has an accelerometer.

The Wii remote plus adds a gyroscope for more complex motion sensing, such as the swordplay in Skyward Sword.

I played Tilt 'n' Tumble on my Wii using a GB emulator, the motion controls in the Wiimote worked just fine.

I've never played Tilt 'n' Tumble, so I wouldn't know.

I am so going to buy this. Even though I'm an avid Kirby fan, I haven't played all that many of his games. This collection will be great for me.

As for the possibilities, I have no clue. Maybe it'll be like Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii, which included 4 games, a CD, and a Mario history booklet?

I'd prefer it to be like Sonic Mega Collection, which had 12-22 games, depending on the release, along with concept art, history and the first comic book.

Except that was on the gamecube's disc, which can only hold 1.4 gigs, as opposed to the wii's disc, which can hold between 4.7 and 8.5 gigs. That's a lot of gigs. It can hold a lot of games. I don't want only four on my wii disc.

(mario all stars was kind of a ripoff)

having said that...

[2:05:44 PM] Justin Daly (mamthew): also now that I think about it, co op KDL2 would be awesome
[2:05:50 PM] honéblum (Diddgery): yes it would
[2:06:15 PM] Justin Daly (mamthew): imagine if kirby collection is just DL1, DL2, DL3, KSS, K64. But all the games are now co op
[2:06:19 PM] Justin Daly (mamthew): best collection
[2:06:20 PM] honéblum (Diddgery): oh my god yes
[2:06:42 PM] honéblum (Diddgery): why not kirby's adventure too

If we do get only four games, give all of them co op and I'll be okay.

Co-op on all the games would be a dream come true.

A name has been confirmed, Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition! Wow, a mouthful. Does it mean HAL will consider releasing a Kirby's Dream Collection, without the special? Does the special mean anything at all? I dunno. It's also slated for September 2012! Such a long time away, I hope the wait will be worth it.

I for one am excited for this. While I would have preferred it to be on the Wii U(Kirby in HD is absolutely beautiful), I am still looking forward to this. Thankfully, they cannot pull what they did with Super Mario All-Stars, where they simply put a ROM on the disc. So they'll have to actually create a Kirby compilation from scratch. So really, just about any game is possible, as long as they make the disc big enough. I believe the largest Wii Game was Brawl, which had to be dual-layered to fit in all 7.47 gigs of it. The largest Kirby games are Kirby's Return to Dreamland at 4.37 gigs, Kirby's Epic Yarn at 3.57 gigs, and Kirby Air Ride at 1.36 gigs. The rest of the games are so small it really wouldn't matter. So theoretically, if they didn't include the Wii games, they could put every Kirby on a disc. Now, odds are they won't do that, cause that would be silly and waste potential profit. But if they really wanted to, they could.

Now, the only game I'd really want on it would be Air Ride. That is a fun game. It might have it's flaws, but it's overall a fun and massive experience that would definitely justify this game's purchase.

I'd also love some extra content included on the disc, like a massive music gallery of the best tunes of the series, concept and beta art, demos of the Wii titles(And maybe future titles?), interviews with people who worked on the series, trivia, and maybe a few episodes of the Anime. This could be a great time to really look back on the Pink Puffball's history, and I do hope that Hal pulls out all the stops and celebrates one of gaming's greatest hero.

Having every single Kirby game on there except for Wii is probably not going to happen. I really wonder why Nintendo isn't releasing this for Wii U, though. It would be one more launch title to help the console's launch, and, like you said, having the Kirby games in HD would be incredible. The disadvantages with that are that production costs would be much higher and there would have to be a bunch of work done to make it work with the different architecture the Wii U has and upping the resolution, and maybe increasing texture resolutions.

I suppose so, but still. A Wii U Kirby Collection as a launch title would have definitely been good for Nintendo.

But anyway, it appears we have some information arise on the game! It'll have Six games on it;

-Kirby's Dreamland
-Kirby's Adventure
-Kirby's Dreamland 2
-Kirby Super Star
-Kirby's Dreamland 3
-Kirby 64; The Crystal Shards

And the collection also comes with an on-disc calendar that looks back on the series, a special booklet, and a soundtrack.

So the collection is rather solid, I'm amazed that they included the Game Boy games. Maybe they're doing the emulation of those like the Super Game Boy? I dunno, but I am disappointed by the lack of spin-offs *cough*Air Ride*cough*, though all the sources I read on this simply said they include those games, and not that those were all the games. So maybe there's still some hope there'll be a few secrets in the package? That would be nice if they made it so that you unlocked new features after every game you beat on the disc.

Where is your source? Those aren't very many games. I already have all of them, so I'm really thinking if I should just skip out on this. It doesn't seem really enticing. The booklet and the soundtrack could be interesting, but I don't want to shell out a bunch of money for them.

Here and Here.

And actually, when you look at the prices on the Virtual Consoles,(Not counting the actual cartridges cause those can get pricey)

Kirby's Dreamland-$4.00
Kirby's Adventure-$5.00
Kirby's Dreamland 2-$6.00
Kirby Super Star-$8.00
Kirby's Dreamland 3-$8.00
Kirby 64-$10.00

It adds up to $41 Dollars. Add in the extra content, and it could be a better alternative for newcomers to the series to buy as opposed to buying each individually. The Japanese suggested retail price is roughly $50, which would mean they'd end up paying $9 for the extra content. Which, depending on what exactly it is, may justify the purchase. Whether it'll be that expensive on it's western release remains to be seen. I'm personally crossing my fingers for it only being $30, $40 at most. Which, with the way they're trying to sell Wii games by lowering the price of the Nintendo Selects to only $20, isn't too much of a pipe dream.

Oh, okay. That's not too bad, then. I might look into it if it's in the $30-$40 price range.
