Honestly, the incredible amount of fans who love meta knight way too much more than I feel he deserves makes him a lot less appealing in my book. Like seriously, people demand that meta knight get his own game, or talk about how meta knight is what makes the series. I've heard people say that meta knight is all the series needs and that guys like Dedede are awful in comparison (as if KAM wasn't enough of an affront to the poor penguin king). I've seen people refuse to play as anyone other than meta knight in RtDL, despite the fact that there are essentially over 30 playable characters in the game, and people who only play meta knight in brawl, even though he's not even very fun in that game. Doesn't help that most of his fans like him because of his role in the anime, which is pretty whatever and pretty bad at getting any character right.

All this unwarranted attention to Meta Knight has made me like him a lot less than I used to, and might possibly be why I've come to like Dedede so much more (a lot of fans I've met actually hate Dedede and it's because of how he acts in the anime).

Not even gonna lie...

I used to think Meta Knight was hella overhyped. Like I saw a lot of posts/threads about him on KRR and didn't like how much attention he got (don't go there anymore cause I got banned). Heck, Meta Knight used to not even be one of my top five favorite Kirby characters and now he's second only behind Kirby. The reason is because of Brawl. Once you play Meta Knight in Brawl, you really can't blame anyone for loving him, he's soooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! I'm a competitive Smasher, so my likingness towards Meta Knight leans towards me maining him/how good he is in Brawl rather than his actual character, but because I like him in Brawl, it's made him as a character from the Kirby series grow on me too.

Mamthew, I agree with your post 100% EXCEPT saying he's not fun in Brawl. In a slow game like Brawl, Meta Knight is one of the few characters that can actually approach as well as do guaranteed combos (low percent upair strings, glide attack to Up-B at low percent, etc.) plus he just feels like one of the characters you can be really diverse with. I mean he's the best character for a reason. So yeah, I agree with you 100% except for the Brawl statement and him in Brawl is actually what made him grow on me.

And yeah meta knight can do well but he's super just not fun at all. I don't enjoy using him and I'm always sad when I'm stuck with him. Granted, I usually prefer to use characters who aren't stupid cheap or too easy to use, and I don't even play Brawl too often any more.

I don't think "cheap" and "easy to use" go well in Brawl. You could say Ice Climbers are cheap because of their death chaingrab, but it's not easy because the timing for that chaingrab is different on every character. Plus everyone who knows they have the chaingrab will play to avoid getting grabbed which makes getting the grab as ICs hard as well.

Not gonna discuss this more cause this isn't a Brawl thread, but just thought I'd say that because I do dislike it when people say they dislike a character because they're "cheap" or "easy" because it's anticompetitive and depending on the standards of how you play, "cheap" can be a lot of things. Meta Knight is cheap to many people for obvious reasons. I don't think people would normally consider Pikachu cheap, but he does have a 0-death chaingrab on Fox, 21? (not sure when the chaingrab starts, but it's 20-something%) to around 100% chaingrab on Falco, 0-around 100% chaingrab on Snake. He has a lot of chaingrabs, but those are the main ones that are ridiculous. People who play Brawl in FFAs probably don't know about these CGs and even if they do, they'd probably get interuptted before they go to their ridiculous percents, but the point remains the same. Any character can be "cheap" to non-competitive players. People could say Ike is too cheap cause of his strong attacks (probably his f-smash the most), but they're either slow or have poor range and you shouldn't get hit by one of his kill moves unless you got read or you're just playing dumb.

So yeah. Meta Knight to me is fun because of how good he is (like I said play competitively, so I like playing the character with the highest chance of winning) as well as how he plays, he can play pretty aggresively once he gets momentum and still safer than most characters, so I like that a lot.
